Architecture & Interior Design
This project was driven by a homeowner with discerning aesthetic sensibilities and appreciation for art and architecture.
There were four stated objectives that drove the planning and design: a desire to connect inside and outside as much as possible, to provide discrete but connected spaces for dining, living, cooking, and lounging, to place the master and children’s bedrooms all on one level but to create separate wings for each, and to create an enduring aesthetic of solidity and modernity.
Architecturally, the form of the residence is grounded by two very different boxes that flank the entry. One is a living room of transparency, inviting views in and out to the open river valley on that side of the lot. The second is the office, a solid stone box with long narrow windows offering framed views of the trees outside, while protecting privacy for the working environment within.
