The Rivergrove Residence

Residential
Project Overview

The Rivergrove Residence is nestled through the back of a wild grove of poplar and spruce trees in South West Edmonton. This residence branches and bends with the topology of the site and overlooks the North Saskatchewan River and the river valley below. This residence is designed around its views; with expansive glazing and an open and free-flow design from front to back. This openness culminates in a panoramic cantilevered second-level master bedroom wing with an expressive outcropping deck over the sloping river basin below.

The material palette is restricted to white corrugated metal, oak wood slats, and glazing. The linearity of these materials is complemented by the surrounding trees while the white corrugation contrasts with the clear blue Alberta sky and catches the sun creating interesting shadowed patterns throughout the day.

In combination with floor-to-ceiling glazing and strategically placed sliding doors, the deck serves as a through-line between the exterior with the interior and the front of the house with the back.
