Shugarman Architecture was commissioned by the University of Saskatchewan to complete a condition assessment, and repair plan for 11 historic slate roofs within the University of Saskatchewan campus in 2023. The assessment was done to review the overall condition of each roof, weigh the pros and cons on if the slate roofs should be protected based on cost, historic merit, and campus benefits, and then create a yearly maintenance plan with budget for when the roofs should be rehabilitated. Information gathered was drafted into a fulsome actionable document to ensure the buildings conservation. Contrary to what previous contractors recommended, SA+D found that not only could all roofs be rehabilitated, that for the majority, it would be the most cost-effective route.
